High Powered Expert Committee Report on Mumbai - An International Financial Centre
Mumbai has been the hub of most of the developments in Indian financial system. In recognition of this, as announced in Budget 2005-06, Government appointed a High Powered Expert Committee on Mumbai as an International Financial Centre. The Committee included senior representatives of Government and heads of several financial and market institutions. The Committee submitted its report to Government recently. The Committee has made detailed recommendations on the general macroeconomic environment in which an IFC operates and the policy framework that affects its operations, the agenda for further financial system reform including changes in financial regime governance and regulation, the development of ‘missing’ or weak markets, the development of globally competitive institutions and financial firms and the agenda for urban infrastructure and governance in Mumbai
